ORAL MUCOSITIS IN CHILDREN WITH CANCER: DIFFICULTIES OF EVALUATION AND EFFECTIVE THERAPY

Objectives Cancer is a world public health problem, and the incidence in children increase 1% per year. Despite its high efficacy, antineoplastic therapy induces effects of significant toxicity, often causing patient hospitalization, difficulties continuing oncotherapy or noncontinuation adequate treatment for nonprogression disease. Oral mucositis one most common deleterious effects; it causes pain, affects speech nutrition, makes susceptible to septicemia. In children, frequency oral around 65%, manifestations are evaluated with different scales treated protocols. The objective this work verify state art assessment undergoing cancer treatment, regard criteria. Study Design A systematic review was performed. Results Studies have shown that evaluation essential establish strategies, whereas protocols used inconsistent, there no viable valid system punctuating childhood caused by cancer, preventing more effective therapeutic intervention. Conclusions Children's International Mucositis Evaluation Scale, created 2009, has been scale greatest acceptability validity.
